City of Pittsburgh Baiting Service
The City of Pittsburgh currently offers eligible residents a rodent baiting service requested through 311, at no charge up to two times per year. The program places one bait station at the residence.
Pittsburgh's municipal rodent baiting program is limited to owner or resident requests for their home. The City states that bait stations cannot be placed on abandoned properties, empty lots, or public ways. The program does not cover businesses or apartment buildings with more than four units. Severe residential rodent problems may require private resolution.
Sealing Openings and Baiting
Structural rodent control and population-control tools address different parts of an infestation. The CDC recommends identifying and sealing openings that allow rodents to enter and using trapping to remove rodents already inside. Poison or bait stations are discussed for persistent mouse or rat infestations. Baiting does not itself close the structural openings that permit entry.
